An MRI is often ordered to get more information about a health condition when an X-ray or other types of tests don’t provide enough answers. Before your appointment, there are a few things that you can do to prepare yourself so that you’re comfortable.
Understand the Scan
Before you get to the MRI center in Orlando, talk to your doctor, a nurse, or a technician to learn about how the scan will work. You can talk about the noises that you might hear as well as how you’ll be positioned on the table. If your doctor orders a scan with contrast, you can ask about how it might make you feel and if there’s anything you need to avoid before getting to the center.
Safety
Remove any jewelry that you have on before your scan. You should also let the technician know about any metal parts in your body, such as screws or rods. Let the technician know of any tattoos that you have and if you could be pregnant. If you’re claustrophobic, you should ask if there are any medications that you can take to relax you or if there’s an open MRI center that offers a machine without the enclosed tube.
Arrival
Try to get to the center about 15 minutes before your appointment so that you can complete any necessary paperwork and provide your insurance information. Arriving early can also help you calm down so that you’re not nervous about the scan and allow for you to use the bathroom or ask any last-minute questions.
