What to Expect After Transman Top Surgery

by | Oct 12, 2022 | Transgender Surgeons

A lot of people ask what transman top surgery is really like. Recovery is not too difficult for most people, but there are a few possible complications and risks, as with any surgical procedure. It is a major procedure, so you’ll want to follow all your post-operative instructions while giving yourself time for proper healing.

How Long Will the Surgery Take?

The time needed for recovery following transman top surgery will depend on how much breast tissue is removed. It also depends on if there is a need for contouring using liposuction. Usually, the surgical procedure takes between two and four hours to complete.

What Happens After Waking Up?

After completing the procedure, you will wake up in a recovery room. A nurse will attend to you and continue to monitor your vital signs. There will probably be some beeping machines and people working around you. You may be a little groggy, and some people get a bit nauseous or confused.

Going Home

Transman top surgery is usually an outpatient procedure. You won’t need to stay overnight in the hospital unless some health concerns require monitoring. If you have a bad reaction to the anesthesia, have a history of blood clots, or have a respiratory condition, you may need to be watched more closely. Once it’s safe, you can leave the clinic. Then, you can go wherever you plan on recovering. You must have someone who can take you home after the procedure, and you’ll need someone who can stay with you for at least 24 hours.
